OSS : New Router

Whelp, the other day my dad gave me a heap of crap pile from some friend of his. The computer
specs: HP zetta 200 MHz 32mb sim memory with 2 GB drive.
I
exchanged the 2 GB with a 13 GB Seagate and I replaced the old broken Intel nic with a new realtek +
davicom. I attempted to install debian, but I realized I was sorry out of luck because I'm terrible
at compiling kernels which is why I run mandrake (just so I can avoid such scenarios. Anyways, after
debian did not work, I went with smoothwall, which I couldn't get working, and said, screw this shit
and went with mandrake. I installed a very dry installation of mandrake, came out to all of 300mb of
files, mainly for a few daemons I'm running. I ran into a few problems afterwards which were related
to some sort of issue with sshd, when i stay logged in for too long on that box it seemed to hang
and so the internet connection would die. I just avoid using sshd too much on it now

Ranting : WHY!? Stupid Comcast

Well, it's official, looks like Comcast is firing all of the current TechTV staff. I don't get it,
why would they do such a thing, and destroy a decent network. I don't get it. What kind of moronic
people would do such a thing. TechTV is a niche audience, and they are just throwing away all of
those viewers. What a sad joke of a company.

Welp, I have updated the menu interface because i thought that the UL list interface was a bit
clunky, and on top of that, what i wanted to do with it would not work properly with the notoriously
poor support of CSS on IE, so i decided to go with simple div tags to replicate exactly what i would
have done, but works on all browsers
.. hope you people find the new menu
pleasant on the eyes.
Life : Damn Cat

My damn cat keeps going behind my computers, and that really pissed me off, well anyways, i won't
have to worry about that anymore. That would be due to my ingenious thinking and figuring out that
the wall socket has a short in it which turns off most of the power in my room, so i moved the
powerplug cord into another socket in my room which does not short out the power, thus i can expect
to see uptimes of around 100 days or so atleast.
Life : w00t BW Increase

Well, it looks like Verizon will be upgrading the speed of my DSL, and I will no longer have to take
turns playing games online with my bro.. My DSL speed will go from 1.5mb~/~384kbps, which will
almost triple what I'm getting now which is ~1.5mb/~128kbps which sucks the wazoo because when 1
person downloads, your latency goes up the roof. When you first get DSL, it's the greatest thing in
the world, you start to download stuff and you realize you need more / faster speed because files
seem to be getting bigger. But the ISP's don't seem to be keeping up with the demand of what I like
to call balanced bandwidth ratio, depending on how much download speed you give someone, you should
have a very generous upload ratio to balance out any network traffic. Well anyways, from what I
hear, Verizon is going to make this new bandwidth available as their starters package, so if you
live close enough to your CO, your good to go.
Life : Life without a Car

The day goes by, and i could be doing so much more, yet i'm stuck at home, without any means of
transportation. I call all the friends i have on my address book, yet no one seems to be around, it
sucks to be in a relatively small city in california because our public transit sucks the big one.
So the only time i get a ride is when people decide not to become invisible.. damn you all

Just got my linux boxes, starting to experiment with new distro's, and the box speeds are:
+ 550mhz p3 384mb sdram, intel 440bx chipset, 2 hd, 1 Maxtor 20gig, 1 WesternDigital
20gig, nvidia tnt2 ultra 32mb, 3com nic
+ 800mhz duron 256mb sdram, 1 samsung 20gig, sis
chipset, integrated realtek nic, matrox g200 8mb
Anyways, i've tried debian so
far, which is nice, very minimalistic setup, but the only problem is see, is it feels too
minimalistic, i need a box with some body to it
, so i'm going to give mandrake 9.1 a
shot, hopefully it will setup many of the features which i find to be extremely useful.
I will keep everyone updated on my new development boxes.
