Personal : Update on life, and school.

Well, what can I say, I have not updated this site in what seems like ages. What has happened over the last couple of months would almost seem like my world changed upside down and flipped back onto my feet. Our refrigerator broke, we bought a new one; our car is broke, so we leased a new one; even though we still have the old one--Olsmobile Cuttless. My dad is even starting to get back into the mortgage business which he was in for almost 15 yrs. The Real Estate business is where he has always made most of his money. When I was younger, I used to be able to purchase as much toys and go out to eat as much as we wanted to, that includes my dad/mom/bother and me. So I never used to worry about money at all. Granted, right now things are slowly changing; they are still changing for the better. It just leaves me in somewhat of a good mood. You would be surprised on how much not having to worry about money can change your mindset and mental stability.

Personal : Update on Server at Home

Posted by Compubomb On Aug 25, 2005 @ 6:48 pm | Visited ( 181 )

My server kind of died on me about a week ago. I had to replace the hard drive and the video card unfortunately. Granted, I did have a new hard drive to replace the old one--40 gigabyte Quantum drive--but the new drive is much larger--260gigabyte Western Digital. Now the server is back up, but unfortunately, I could not get it running on Debian 3.1 stable(sarge), it is now running on Mandriva Limited Edition 2005. I cannot try to make those who read this understand how much I adore this distribution. It is a life saver when it comes to patience, patience which I completely lack, and therefore I am not willing to spend many hours in front of a terminal trying to figure out how to setup some foreign distribution and screw everything to hell and back. Granted, Mandriva still uses rpm, but it is definitely not a clone of Redhat or anything associated to it other than their package management. Everyone in my opinion should give it a shot, Mandriva is definitely worth the time and effort to setup, you can set it up from scratch in just under 25 to 30 minutes depending on how fast your computer is and what media you use, I had the DVD Disk Image of Mandriva with all 5 CDs on it. It was extremely pleasant to install.
